Self Evaluation

I had alot of fun making this documentary, I think my group and I thought of a great topic that is relevant to the students of York Mills. In this documentar I worked on the different ideas that the group came up with when first creating our docuemtary, when our topic was chosen, I worked on the questions in which we were going to ask the different bands and how we were going to set them up when editting came along. I also helped film the different groups and ask them the interview quesions. I also helped work on the actually editting giving my inputs when needed and helped set up the orders of shots. I am also the one talking in the movie.

In this assignment i believe that the best part that I did was the help I did with the editting side of the documentary, this would also be the most significant learning that took place for me. I had alot of fun with trying to put the movie together, and figuring out where the different shots were going to go and what we should cut and what needed to be kept. I learned how to edit on Imovie which was pretty cool. And was alot of fun and it was also the best part because I gave alot of ideas.

Next time I would proabably change the amount of time spent on editing, I would give nmore time for editing so that even the small details could be taken care of.

Where I would want you to notice my work would be in the editing, although we all helped out with the editing, from the last commercial we had to do, I helped a great amount with the editing and putting the movie together as a whole and just saying where shots should be put within the movie and what should be in it. I feel that ideas I had benefitted the documentary just because I have a large imagination. It was alot of fun and I learned alot of new things when it came to editing and the bands that we interviewed.

The Sounds of York Mills.

1) This documentary, was about the bands within York Mills High School. Therefore this films point of view was from the view point of the different bands, Earth to Mekus, Kilroy was here, and the teacher band. It was on their points of view of the York Mills music programs and if it was improving over the years and if it will continue to oimporove as new students enter the school.

2) In this film, the most effective documentary film technique would deffinatly have to be observational and interactive. We used interviews and intereacted with the different bands and got involoved but also took a step back and filmed the bands playing their music.

3) The stlye of the film was to do an introduction and then one by one interview the different bands. This helped serve the content because it gave the audience the chance to get to know each band one at a time instead of jumping back and forth between each band. Also each band has it's own stlye so by keeping them seperate the audience was able to see each bands unique style.

4) My favorite character in this film would have to be Brian Davis. I say this because he gave us a serious and deep in look into Kilroy was here when that band is not serious at all. Also when it came to talking about the music program at York Mills it shows that he is well informed of the music programs as he named many ways to get involved. If this film was turned into a feature film, I would have Brian Davis play himself. One because this is a documentory which means that he should be playing himself, but also because you can see his love for music and that really shows through the camera so I would not settle for another actor who does not have the same desire and love as Brian does for music.
